The culture of Malaysia draws on the varied cultures of the different people of Malaysia. Chinese and Indian cultural influences made their mark when trade began with those countries, and increased with immigration to Malaysia. The many different ethnicities that currently exist in Malaysia have their own unique and distinctive cultural identities, with some crossover. Next, the Chinese have been settling in Malaysia for many centuries, and form the second-largest ethnic group. The first Chinese to settle in the Straits Settlements primarily in and around Malacca, gradually adopted elements of Malaysian culture and intermarried with the Malaysian community and with this, a new ethnic group called emerged, the Peranakan ("Straits Chinese"). These Chinese have adopted Malay traditions while maintaining elements of Chinese culture such as their largely Buddhist and Taoist religion. The Chinese in peninsular Malaysia, they have more than one native language such as Hokkien, Cantonese, Mandarin, Hakka and so on. For their traditional clothing, Chinese people wears cheongsam which is their favourite colour is red. Based on their beliefs, red colour bring good meaning or lucky for them.
